Meet the 2025 GSU Team

 

Nazila | Co-Chair

Nazila is entering her 4th year at UNB, majoring in Biology. Alongside her role as this year's GSU Co-Chair, she is the co-president of UNB S.P.R.I.N.G. and serves as the Vice-President of the UNB Pre-Dental Club. She advocates for women in STEM and is committed to challenging the stereotypes that are present in science and technology fields, particularly in regions where cultural norms discourage women from pursuing careers in STEM.

 

Ally | Co-Chair

Allyson is going into her 4th year at UNB, majoring in Biochemistry. Apart from being this years GSU Co-Chair, she is Science Councilor on the Student Union as well as a Best Buddies participant. Ally is passionate about the Girls in STEM cause, and ensuring everyone knows their worth while living up to their fullest potential.

 

Maryna | Creatives Chair

Maryna is currently in her fourth year of a concurrent degree, pursuing a Bachelor of Computer Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Passionate about community involvement, she actively engages in volunteering and campus clubs. This is her second year serving on the GSU executive team, as well as a member of the Women in Computer Science and Engineering executive team. She strives to create a supportive and inclusive environment for women in STEM.

 

Yessica | Partnerships Chair

Yessica is a recent graduate from NBCC, where she completed the Network Administration program. Before becoming an international student, she accumulated nearly 10 years of experience supporting different business applications. Currently, Yessica works as an IT Business Analyst in her new role, and she is passionate about connecting with other STEM women to share experiences and motivate each other.

 

Jordan | Logistics Chair

Jordan is in her 4th year of the Biology and Math interdisciplinary program at UNB Fredericton. This is her second year being on the GSU exec team and she's very excited to be involved again!

 

Beatrice | Keynote Speaker Chair

Beatrice is going into her 4th year of a BSc at UNB with a major in Earth Science. She hopes to one day become a volcanologist and continue to pursue her studies in experimental petrology. As this years Keynote Speaker, Beatrice has a passion for advocating for women in STEM. You may recognize her as the President of the Bailey Geological Society!

 

Victoria | Small Business Sponsorship Chair

Victoria is a third year bio-chemistry student here at UNB. After struggling through her first year at a different school, she is very passionate about Girls STEM Up because she believes even a little bit of support from an outside source can go such a long way towards being successful in your degree and future career field! Who better to support women than other women?

 

Sumou | Events Coordinator - Fredericton

Sumou is entering her 2nd year as a Biology-Psychology student at UNBF. Alongside being one of GSU's Event Coordinator Chairs, she is the Secretary of the Health Sciences Society and the Social Media Coordinator of the Biology Society. She is passionate about intersectionality in STEM and is excited to work alongside such a diverse and strong executive!

Janna | Graphic Design Chair

Janna is entering her second year at UNB, pursuing a BSc in Biology. Her favourite branches of biology to study are molecular biology and conservation biology. This is her first time on the GSU Executive Team, and she's so excited to begin the year! Outside of university life, Janna works part-time as a barista and volunteers at a girls club in her church community.

 

Reem | Communications Chair

Reem is in her third year of Biochemistry. She wants to pursue a career in healthcare in the future and she's also the president of the Pre-med Club. This is her first year with GSU and she's so excited for what's coming. In her free time, Reem likes cooking a good meal, practicing the piano, and loves herself a hot girl walk! She also loves exploring walking trails here in Fredericton.

 

Seher | High School Delegate Chair

Seher is a second-year mechanical engineering student; she hopes to pursue a career in rehabilitation engineering. She has been working as a sustainability director in the Engineering Undergraduate Society. Seher is excited to work with GSU to empower young women in STEM and promote a supportive and inclusive environment.

 

Tushita | Breakout Speaker Chair

Tushita is a 3rd year Computer Science student at UNB. She is originally from Singapore and is passionate about the application of CS in different industries!

 

Abby | Members at Large Chair - Community

Abby is going into her 4th year at UNB, she is pursuing a Bachelor of Sciences in Psychology and specializing in Neuroscience. Alongside being a part of GSU this year, she is also a member of the Best Buddies club at UNB. Abby is passionate for advocating for women in STEM and is so excited to be a part of the GSU community this year!

 

Swati | Members at Large Chair - Merch

Swati is going into her 4th at UNB and doing her honours in Biology. She is also the Co-president of the Biology Society. In her free time, she plays tennis with her family. Swati is so excited to meet everyone and can't wait to be a part of a team that empowers women in STEM.

Gopika | Marketing Chair

Gopika is currently in her third year of Software Engineering at UNB and is the marketing chair for Girls STEM Up 2024. You might recognize her as the previous Communications Director for Go Code Girl and the Peer Mentor/House Leader for the Faculty of Computer Science at UNB. She absolutely loves sharing a space with women who are as passionate about all things math and science as she is, and looks forward to meeting everyone!

 

Moksha | Tech Chair

Moksha is going into her final year, majoring in Computer Science. She is a big-time foodie, an all-time Bollywood fan, and is always ready to take the mic to sing! Alongside her Tech Chair position, she is also the Marketing Coordinator for UNB’s IBEC department and an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant. She is so excited for this year and can't wait to celebrate girls and women in STEM!

 

Bianca | High School Delegate Chair

Bianca is heading into her fourth year of biology here at UNB Fredericton, and is excited to reprise her role as one of the High School delegate chairs for GSU this coming school year! Asides from GSU, Bianca is also involved of the Science Student Peer Mentors Team, and is co-president of the UNB Biology Society. Her absolute dream job is to get involved in cancer research both in a clinician and an academia setting. Bianca's current scientific interests consist of various topics in cellular and molecular biology, as well as immunology.

 

Emma | Title Sponsorship Chair

Emma is in her fourth year of a bachelor of science in forestry at the university of New Brunswick. She worked this past summer in northern Alberta doing forest operations and plans to have a career in this after graduating!

 

Elise | Events Coordinator - Saint John

Elise is going into her first year of a Bachelor of Science at UNB in Saint John. She plans on majoring in Bio-Psych, and hopes to become a physician. Apart from GSU, she is an executive member of the Menstrual Health Society at UNBSJ. She loves being volunteering and being involved. Elise is thrilled to be apart of GSU this year!

 

Deeniti | Events Coordinator - Fredericton

Deeniti is going into her 3rd year at UNB, majoring in Psychology and specialising in Neuroscience. Besides being an event coordinator at GSU, she is also VP events at UNB UPS. She is very passionate to make STEM accessible and fun to everyone, especially to international students.

Sydney | Graphic Design Chair

Sydney is a 2nd year university student at UNB and is majoring in biochemistry. She is a proud member of the women in stem community and hopes to always empower women in their respective fields.

 

Morgan | Logistics Chair

Morgan is going into her second year at UNB, majoring in Biology-Psychology. Alongside her position as this year's GSU Logistics Chair, she is also a Residence Assistant on campus. Morgan is passionate about encouraging women into entering STEM and strongly advocates for equal accessibility for those in rural communities.

 

Mana | University Delegate Chair

Mana is a 4th year Biology-Chemistry student, pursuing a career in dentistry. In addition to her role in Girls Stem Up, she is a Science peer and involved in other university clubs such as the Pre-Dental club and the Health Science Society. Mana is very passionate about empowering women and girls in all aspects of their lives and the Girls STEM Up community has given her an amazing opportunity to do so.

 

Signe | Finance Chair

Signe is currently in her second year of a BSc of Civil Engineering at UNB. This past summer she worked on a restoration project and aggregate testing at an Engineering Firm. Outside of school, she loves playing sports like Hockey and Soccer, and spending time with friends and family. She is an advocate for girls and women in STEM, and she is very excited to have the opportunity to be apart of Girls STEM Up!

 

Ava | Events Coordinator - Saint John

Ava is in her 3rd year of sciences at UNBSJ and is majoring in psychology. In the future she hopes to pursue a career working with kids. This is Ava's first year on the GSU executive team and she can't wait to advocate for girls in STEM throughout the Saint John area!
